Cucina Colori - Dine & Dye

Live cooking meets textile art - in a unique atmosphere under the Sicilian sun.

What happens when fine cuisine meets the magic of natural colors?
CUCINA COLORI is an event for all the senses - an interplay of flavour, aesthetics and craftsmanship in a magical place.

A delicious dinner awaits you, developed by chef Justus Kleineidam and our Botanical Dye Studio, which combines fresh ingredients that are superfood for us. They taste great and can also be used to dye fabrics. At a long table, you will learn recipes and tips from the (dye-) kitchen, join in and enjoy a Sicilian menu in the evening sun. Avocado pits and peels, edible flowers and onion skins - these are just some of the dyeing materials that we will transform into color. Hands on: in two DIY dyeing sessions you will learn dyeing techniques and dye your own napkins. On this evening you will laugh and experiment with like-minded people in the midst of nature, surrounded by cacti and succulents, in the special refuge Vivai Cuba.

The Menu

• Aperitif: limoncello tonic
• Antipasti:
  • cannolo, ricotta, rose, salted lemon
  • crackers with avocado cream, marinated red onion
  • grilled vegetables, yoghurt, pesto, tomato, fried brown onion
• Primo: raviolo, carrot, ginger, parsley oil
• Dolce: apple pie with candied orange skin and walnut

The botanical color experiment:

• Introduction to the dyeing techniques Shibori & Bundle Dye
• Dyeing with avocados, onion skins, walnut shells & more
• Two DIY dyeing sessions - hands-on & surprising
• Two self-dyed (linen) napkins to take home

The location:

Vivai Cuba - a place full of magic, nestled in a lush nursery with tropical and Mediterranean plants - becomes the atmospheric setting for our dinner. Here, surrounded by green oases and in the open air, we enjoy a feast for the senses together: live cooking meets textile art, culinary art meets creativity.

Justus K. is our favorite chef & one of the best hosts - until 021 in his restaurant of the same name in Aachen, Germany, now in Syracuse, Sicily. In the Wine Bar Garage in Syracuse, you will find one of the most exciting wine selections and great appetizers, often with a music program curated by the host himself.

Anke is DAINTY DYSTOPIA's professional botanical dyer and creative fashion alchemist. She discovered the art of plant dyeing in Mexico in 2018 - and has been bringing sustainable textiles and botanical colors together in workshops, retreats, DIY kits and live events ever since.
