However, it's even more inspiring to visit the artists and production sites in person. Since we wanted to experience all the special places around Oaxaca City on our trip, we hired Alfredo, the best local guide, driver, and interpreter. We spent three days with him visiting artisan villages, small studios, and exciting markets to purchase the most beautiful and sustainable products directly from the local artists.

Colorful bags made from recycled plastic

One of our first stops took us to Carmen, who immediately captivated us in her small shop-studio. Her colorful bags are made from recycled plastic. But how exactly does it work? In a factory near the city of Puebla, the plastic is recycled and processed into "spools of yarn" in different colors. Carmen then receives the recycled "ribbons" on large spools and can then weave the different colors into vibrant, unique pieces using traditional Oaxacan weaving techniques. There are no limits to her creativity, and Carmen loves to play with shapes, sizes, models, and colors. The bags are of high quality, washable, robust, and versatile.

We fell in love immediately, purchased several unique pieces, and shipped them to Germany. Currently, there's only one bag available in each color combination and pattern. Are you as enthusiastic as we are and would you like to support our local artist? Then you'll find your new favorite companion here . The magic and joie de vivre of Mexico comes free of charge!
